NVIDIA global robotics team sees OASIS Hub research in action

Last month we had the pleasure of hosting colleagues from NVIDIA's global robotics division for a visit to the UCL Hawkes Institute, where OASIS researchers showcased the latest developments in surgical robotics, AI and advanced computing.

Dr Zhehua Mao demonstrated a real-time AI assistant for pituitary surgery, a system designed as both a real-time guidance tool during surgery and an interactive training aid for neurosurgeons.

Visitors also got to test out our Da Vinci robot - one of the few available for research use in Europe.

Kerry Barber, UCL Centres Manager for the Faculty of Engineering, captured the atmosphere of the visit:

The work showcased was exceptionally impressive.

In speaking with several of the NVIDIA visitors, it was evident that the research taking place resonated with them.

They’ve seen the video footage before, but seeing it in real life is just something else.

Visits like this reflect the growing interest from industry in the translational research taking place at the OASIS Hub, and we look forward to continuing to build connections between our researchers and global leaders in robotics and AI.

Thank you to NVIDIA Robotics for visiting and to our researchers for their fantastic showcases.
