Emeritus Prof David Hawkes recently demoed a number of engagement activities to enthusiastic Year 6 children at a junior school in Thames Ditton.

Supported by Dr Eddie Edwards, Dave demoed image guided banana surgery and obstetric ultrasound with a real ultrasound probe and a VR Hololens headset.

The children were very curious and had many insightful questions. Dave and Eddie thoroughly enjoyed it and were excited it to share their excitement of working in medical research, and biomedical engineering in particular.

Nancy and Gracie, two of the students involved, wrote about their experience:

We had a very interesting time wearing VR goggles and looking at ultrasound machines, where we tried to find a model baby.

We also tried working out working out where the heart, head and feet were positioned.
